How Anti-Rollback Device Works?

  • The device consists of left and right mounting brackets, a seat lever, and brake arms. When properly installed, the seat lever is depressed under the weight of the occupied wheelchair seat.
  • The device rotates the brake arms off of the tires. The brake arms are biased toward engaging the tires (through adjustable spring tension) as weight is lifted from the seat. Once engaged, the brake arms prevent the wheels from rotating backward. In this state, the wheelchair moves freely in all directions.
  • The chair is still able to move forward in the engaged position.
  • The unit features a quick override lever to assist caregivers in moving the unoccupied chair backward.
  • Removing the seat lever (installed with quick release pins) allows folding the chair for transport or storage.
  • This device can be used with seat cushions.
  • This device is not compatible with solid drop seats.
