Aquacel Wound Dressing Features

  • Unique gel action that enables the dressings to lock moderate to highly exuding wounds
  • Fibers do not gel in contact with the fluid so that they maintain their integrity and become encompassed by the gel, providing additional strength and aiding the easy removal
  • Controlled release of ionic silver as wound exudate is absorbed into the dressing
  • Sustained antimicrobial activity for up to 14 days
  • The addition of ionic silver provides rapid, effective, sustained antimicrobial activity
  • Kills a broad spectrum of wound-related bacteria
  • The reservoir of silver ions in the Hydrofiber Dressing for on-demand activity is enough to kill a clinically relevant level of bacteria within 30 minutes

Aquacel Adhesive Dressing Offers

  • A. Waterproof top layer that permits evaporation of excess moisture while protecting against viral/bacterial penetration, allowing the patient to shower and bathe
  • B. Soft, absorbent foam pad to enhance patient comfort and absorb excess fluid
  • C. Hydrofiber layer with ionic silver that gels on contact with wound fluid and helps provide an optimal environment for wound healing.
  • D. Gentle silicone adhesive that provides secure, skin-friendly adhesion, easy removal, and demonstrated low potential for dermal irritation or allergic contact sensitization

Frequently Bought Together

How to apply Aquacel Dressing?

  • Before applying the dressing, cleanse the wound area with an appropriate wound cleanser.
  • Aquacel Extra should overlap 1cm (1/2 inch) onto the skin surrounding the wound.
  • This primary dressing should be used with a secondary cover dressing.
  • Apply the dressing to the wound and cover it with a moisture-retentive dressing (e.g., DuoDERM, CarboFlex, CombiDERM), foam dressing, gauze, or other appropriate dressing.
  • All wounds should be inspected frequently.
  • Remove the Aquacel when clinically indicated (i.e., leakage, excessive bleeding, increased pain) or after a maximum of seven days.

For Partial Thickness Burn Care

  • Before applying the dressing, cleanse the wound area with an appropriate wound cleanser.
  • Aquacel Extra should overlap 5 cm (2 inches) onto the skin surrounding the burn or other adjacent Aquacel Dressing.
  • It should be covered with sterile gauze and secured with medical tape or a retention bandage.
  • Remove the gauze cover dressing periodically and inspect the Convatec Aquacel Extra while it remains in place on the burn.
  • In this indication, adherence to the wound bed of the Aquacel Hydrofiber Dressing is a desired characteristic.
  • Adherence to the dressing over joints could interfere with movement.
  • For partial thickness burns (second-degree burns), Aquacel dressings may be left in place for up to 14 days or until clinically indicated.
  • Frequent inspection of the wound may be necessary if the burn is infected. As the burn wound reepithelizes, the Convatec Aquacel Dressing will detach or be easily removed.

For Dry Wounds

  • Place the Aquacel Extra in the wound and then wet it with sterile saline over the wound area only.
  • The vertical absorption properties of Aquacel will help to maintain the moist area over the wound only and reduce the risk of maceration.
  • Cover the dressing with a moisture-retentive dressing such as DuoDERM Extra Thin to avoid drying out of the dressing and subsequent dressing adherence to the wound.

Precautions

  • Because it provides a moist environment that supports the growth of new blood vessels, the delicate newly formed blood vessels may occasionally produce blood-stained wound fluid.
  • It is not compatible with oil-based products, such as petrolatum.
  • Secondary dressings should be used as stated.
  • Adherence to the dressing over joints could interfere with movement when used for second-degree burns.
  • Aquacel Wound Dressing is not intended for use as a surgical sponge.

Aquacel With Silver - Hydrofiber Dressing FAQ

How often do you change Aquacel?

Aquacel Dressing should be changed every 5 to 7 days unless exudate strikethrough occurs earlier.

Does Aquacel need to be wet?

If the dressing is to be applied on a relatively dry wound, it is ideal to moisten Aquacel Dressing with sterile saline over the wounded area only.
